If you're being prevented from changing your marital status in TurboTax, it's likely due to how you've chosen to prepare your return.
For example, if you initially chose to prepare your return together with a spouse/partner, TurboTax won't allow you to change your marital status to Single (as Single isn't a valid status for someone with a spouse/partner).
Additionally, if you've transferred your return over from a previous year (and you had a status other than Single), TurboTax won't allow you to change your marital status back to Single. According to CRA rules, once someone has been something other than Single, they can't return to Single status again (read the CRA'sMarital statuspage for other available options).
Use the following steps to change your marital status in TurboTax Online:
SelectFindfrom the menu, enterMarital Status, and selectGo
On theWhat’s your marital status? step, change your status (and enter the date of change if it happened during the tax year), then selectContinue
If you're unable to change your marital status, you'll need to start a new return.
