What relationship status should I claim if I got a Civil Union in 2022? It is only approved in Quebec.

Even though there is a change in marital status, it seems as though only Civil Marriages are considered internationally. Would it be safer to report as single?

If you meet the Canada Revenue Agency's requirements for common-law, you can use that as your status. Just make sure that you update your marital status with the CRA before you file.
