Why did I get a refund when I never paid taxes

    It's possible for you to get a refund even if you have not paid any taxes this year if you are eligible for any credits. Therefore it's important that you file your taxes every year to make sure all things you are eligible for can be claimed.      It is possible, even if you are not paying taxes or not require to file a tax return, you may be eligible to claim certain refundable credits. “Refundable” means that you could receive a portion of those credits in the form of a tax refund. A few examples of refundable credits are the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit.
