Amended Tax Returns and AMT Carry Forwards

I need to file an amended tax return for 2022. I found an error that I must correct which will result in payment of the AMT and then an AMT carry forward.

I know how to amend the 2022 return, but do I also need to file an amended 2023 return to make sure that the AMT carry forward is tracked until I can use it? (It would be the only change to my 2023 return and won't change the tax owed as I had no use for the AMT credit that year.)   I have not yet filed 2024 and will not do so until I amend 2022 and (if necessary) also amend 2023.  Also, once I complete and file the amended 2022 return, will TurboTax Live correctly populate an amended 2023 return with the changes that were made for 2022?

Thanks!!

No, you do not have to amend the 2023 tax return for an AMT carry forward if it will not impact the tax that is owed.

I certainly encourage you to include it on your 2024 tax return.
