Question

Been trying to file my taxes for 2.5 weeks now but keep getting a notice that TT needs to update form 8911. Date was originally 2/21, then 2/29 now it's 3/1. What gives?

Form 8911 is ready for Print or Efile, according to the Forms Availability Tool.

If you're using TurboTax Online, you may have data hung, so try the following steps to clear it.

Delete Form 8911 from your return, close TurboTax, clear your Cache and Cookies, and then re-open TurboTax.

Go back to the section for Alternative Fuel Credit, and recreate For 8911 through the interview.

Here's more info on Form 8911

The IRS made updates to Form 8911 Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit. TurboTax is planning to make updates around this by 02/28/2024. Please check back then to be sure you are eligible to receive this credit.

How do you delete Form 8911-A? I never had this form come up while going through the questions for TT. Now it's holding up my e-filing because it wants info that I give. If I can delete this, it will solve the problem.

You can delete forms in Tax Tools in TurboTax Online.

  1. From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.)
  2. On the drop-down select Tools
  3. On the Pop-Up menu titled “Tools Center,” select Delete a Form
  4. This will show all of the forms in your return
  5. Scroll down to the form you want to delete
  6. Select the Form
  7. Click on Delete.

Always use extreme caution when deleting information from your tax return.  There could be unintended consequences.
