Can I transfer my 2023 amended tax return to 2024 turbotax desktop so that I can e-file? The 2023 desktop version won't let me e-file and says I have to mail it.

I would rather e-file so it is faster processing. I filed my original 2023 tax return using 2023 turbotax desktop. I purchased the 2024 turbotax desktop version as well.

No. You cannot use the TurboTax 2024 software to e-file a 2023 tax return.

The 2023 tax return can only be printed and mailed using TurboTax, it cannot be e-filed.

An amended 2023 return cannot be e-filed. Sorry. It has to be filed by mail.

Only certain paid tax pros using professional tax software can e-file past year amended returns. You cannot e-file an amended return that you prepared yourself using TurboTax. Your 1040X must be printed, signed and dated in ink, and then you need to mail it in. Use a mailing service like certified mail so you will know the IRS received it, since you will have a long wait for it to be processed.

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
