Do I have to file an amended state form if I filed an amended federal form?

I e-filed the federal form and realized I had made a mistake.  I made an amended form to be filed.  The mistake did not alter the state return and I had not yet mailed the state return.  Do I have to file an amended state return?

If, in amending the federal return, there was no change to the state return you should not be required to mail the amended state return. If the amendment to the federal return included a new form such as W-2 or 1099 it would be a good idea to send just for the record.

Do I need to amend if my refund doesn't change or stays the same?

@boo180 Just to clarify on your question:  You say that you efiled your federal return, but "had not yet mailed the state return".  Do you mean that you have not yet filed an original state return at all?
