If you want to use the app to file your taxes you do.  But you can file online using a computer without downloading the app.

You can use the app, or the online cloud based version of TurboTax to get started. I always use the app, because I prefer to keep my data on my device. It is up to you, which of these two routes you choose, based on your requirements and preferences, or you can try both, and file using one of the two options, or hire an Accountant.
