I received a notice from the IRS saying they had changed my amount (quite a lot) and basically long story short this notice was lost permanently. How can I get another copy? I can't find a number to talk to a human at the IRS.

You should be able to download a copy of the notice (as well as other useful items such as the tax return they made changes to) from your online IRS account.

So I tried that and it doesn't seem to have copies of my notices. I can download transcripts, which say I got a notice but not what it was about.

I can't help you farther, sorry.

@Critter-3  do you have any tips?

If you look at your tax return transcript and your account transcript, and compare them to the return you filed, you might be able to decipher the changes they have proposed that way.
