How long before I can amend a 2017 return

I filed my 2017 returns two weeks ago and my return was accepted. As I owed money, I noticed the money was taken from my bank account last week. Problem is that I just discovered that I forgot to enter a stock sale from December so I need to amend my return ASAP and pay more.

When I go on the TurboTax website to try and file a 1040x, my 2017 filing does not appear. Shouldn’t it be there already? Since I owe money, I’m anxious to make the correction and avoid a fine. How long should it take before my 2017 return is available on TurboTax.com?

When you log in and scroll down, do you not see the Amend (change) return link?

You may need to sort this out with support as I do not have access to your account info. However, if you know that you will be owing more taxes, then go ahead and pay them at the IRS payment links I included above. Support may be easier to get through after 4/17/18 and there is time to make the amendment.

Wait to mail in the amended return until the original is fully processed. However, pay any additional taxes due now before 4/17/18 to avoid penalties. Pay directly on the IRS website with either link below.

If the original payment was already debited, then you can send your amended 1040X in now. I missed that in your post.

Thank you. I want to do a 1040x now, but my 2017 filing doesn’t appear when I go to TurboTax.com. My 2016 return is there but not my 2017 yet. Shouldn’t it be there already?
