**"How to Correct an Error: 1040 Filed Instead of 1040NR"**

Hello, I filed my tax return for 2024 using Form 1040, but I realized that I should have filed Form 1040NR because I was a nonresident for tax purposes. I incorrectly filed as a resident, even though I indicated that I did not live in the U.S. for the entire year. Could you please advise on how to correct this mistake? Should I file an amended return (Form 1040-X) and submit Form 1040NR? I am unsure of the process to correct my filing. Thank you for your help!

Yes, file an amended 1040X

File 1040NR

MAIL

the Amended Form 1040X,

Form 1040NR  Write "AS AMENDED" on Form 1040NR

Include a copy of the original 1040   Write "Copy of the original 1040"
