Question

I set my turbotax income tax payment to be made to the state on April 30, 2025 when I filed my taxes. Can I change that date to April 15, 2015.

You cannot change it on a filed tax return.

You can contact the Department of Revenue for your state  List of state DOR's

Thank you for your reply which I believe to be correct. However, this is offered as an option by Turbotax when you file your taxes with them. I believe Turbotax should have a caution detailing that the date cannot be changed after filing. My state (Maryland) has accepted the return, however, is showing it as not processed since the payment is scheduled for end of April. Should Turbotax bank not make the payment on April 30 for any reason I could be subject to penalties and/or additional audit.

There is no "TurboTax bank" that will make your payment.   The only thing TT does is give your banking information to the state when you e-file.  TurboTax does not make the payment for you.   It is up to the state to do that direct debit.   If you changed your mind about when you want that debit to occur, it is up to you to sort it out with the state.   TurboTax cannot intervene with the state for you after you e-file.

If you're worried about your payment being late, you have additional options to pay your Maryland tax return balance via your bank account or credit card.  You would then need to contact the State to let then know that you paid earlier then your initially designated payment day on your tax return so you are not debited twice.

For assistance, users may contact the Taxpayer Service Section Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm via email at taxhelp@marylandtaxes.gov or by phone at 410-260-7980 from central Maryland or 1-800-MDTAXES (1-800-638-2937) from elsewhere. We offer extended taxpayer support during peak filing season.

Personal Federal and State income tax return balances are always due by April 15th every year (unless there is a holiday or governmental declared natural disaster, etc.)
