Question

Is there a way I can check online with the IRS if an extension has been filed and accepted for my taxes?

I'm doing my mother's taxes and they were previously done by an accountant. I filed an Easy Extension through TurboTax and it got rejected saying the Taxpayer TIN in the return header must not be the same as a previously accepted electronic return.... So I was wondering if the accountant automatically filed an extension since they haven't gotten any info from me.

No, the IRS does not have a section on their website for accepted extension requests.

Someone has filed a tax return with her Social Security number and Name, so it very well could be the accountant.  Can you call and find out?

If there are no taxes owed or there is a tax refund on the 2024 tax return, there is no reason to file an extension since there are no penalties for filing after the due date if there are no taxes owed.

If taxes are owed, you can get an automatic extension from the IRS if you make an extension payment on the IRS website for Direct Pay on or before the due date of the federal tax return - https://directpay.irs.gov/directpay/payment?execution=e1s1
