Question

My refund is now over a month late with no available assistance from TurboTax besides “just wait a little longer”. Anyone have a helpful suggestion?

Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.  Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.

If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

"....with no available assistance from TurboTax...."

Not sure what assistance you expect from TurboTax.   TurboTax is just the software company that provided software for you to prepare a tax return.  TurboTax gets no information from the IRS after your return has been accepted for processing by the IRS;  TT cannot speed up the IRS for you or find out anything about what the IRS is doing with your tax return.  You can track it for yourself on the IRS refund site.

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

Really interesting how this is always the answer. I’ve used TurboTax every year and had fees deducted from my direct deposit. Never once has it taken this long. Also, pretty funny you mention the third party bank that handles fees after said deposit is released. Nobody can tell me who that bank is or if I can talk to them to expedite my process. The IRS points the finger at TurboTax, TT points it at the IRS until you don’t buy it, then it’s a mysterious shadowy third party. I’d just appreciate if someone could give me a solid answer with an actual status update that isn’t “oh it’s somewhere, it says it’s accepted so just hang on!”. The class action lawsuits every year ensure that any efforts used to cover up the blatant mismanagement of funds fall flat on their faces. Thanks but no thanks for the regurgitated answer. Have a nice day.
