Can you use yourself as an exemption.

The number of ALLOWANCES you claim on the W-4  do not need to be the same as the number of EXEMPTIONS you claim on the tax return.  Many folks adjust the allowances to increase or decrease their take home pay or tax refund and that is normal & allowed.

On the tax return you will automatically get an exemption for you, your spouse and any dependents listed so you don't need to do anything special.
