Tax return short changed 2024

My tax return was deposited into my checking account -- I don't know if it's federal or state but it's from GREENDOT.  If it's from Federal, the refund is $500 short (with the fees taken out).  If it's state, it's about $200 short.

What's going on?  Where's the rest of my refund?

Write to the Better Business Bureau, your state Attorney General and the California Attorney General.

Your refund could be offset.

The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts.  You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for.

The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.
