Turbo Tax charge but no refund!

I’m getting my turbo tax charge deducted from my refund. However, it’s been two months, I still haven’t gotten my refund, and now Turbo Tax is going to take it directly from my account. Why would this company take it from my account when I asked it to be deducted from my tax refund? Which I still have not had deposited AND there is NO INFORMATION regarding the status of my efile! Pretty sure Turbo Tax is making me pay them for messing up my refund. No idea how to go about this.

Was your return accepted?  If it was, the processing of your tax return has nothing to due with TurboTax.  The IRS is the one delaying the processing of your return & refund. It is taking the IRS longer to process returns since they are closed. They are still processing e-filed returns but the 21 days (business days) is not the standard now due to Covid-19. The IRS is not processing mailed in returns at this time.

All you can do now is keep checking the IRS website, Where's My Refund, the website updates once a day.

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

When you choose to pay your TurboTax fees from your Federal refund & there is a delay in the processing of your return/refund, then per the Refund Processing Agreement, TurboTax can deduct the fees from your bank account.

Why was my bank account auto-debited for TurboTax fees?

Doesn't matter if IRS is the one delaying refund. We were never given a deadline and that's not our problem. Cost of doing business... glad they made the mistake of trying to charge the additional fee... I only gave them my account number to deposit funds... not take them bc IRS is backed up. That's fraud...

No it is not fraud ... when you agreed to the refund processing service (twice in the program) you DID give them permission to withdraw the fee if the refund was grabbed for an offset  OR  the refund was delayed.

Before they debit  they send  4 separate email alerts over a 3 week period to explain the situation and to offer a way to delay the debit ... read those email instructions carefully.

First see this FAQ on what you are experiencing.

FAQ:  Why was my bank account auto-debited for the TurboTax fees?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-was-my-bank-account-auto-debited-for-tur...

If their auto-debits have caused you to incur overdraft/non-sufficient fees (NSF fees), you have some recourse for the overdraft fees.  You will have to talk to Support to inform them of the situation and get an Incident Number from the person who takes your report, then see this FAQ:

FAQ: How to submit a non-sufficient funds (NSF) case for review:

NOTE:  As the FAQ says, you should redact  (black out) other personal info such as the account number, etc.

Hours are 5AM-5PM Pacific (8AM-8PM Eastern) Monday-Friday.

You can use the phone number displayed in the first FAQ above, or you can use this contact form to get a phone number, or it may schedule a callback.

And about the refund fee? You failed to address that issue.

I am in the same situation.  We pay for this type of services yet TurboTax is not doing anything about it.

Not all the TT programs are free so which program did you actually use ?

In the FILE tab the first step is the TT bill so I am not sure how you did not know there was a cost.  If you did not want to pay the fees then you should not have continued to step 2.   After you file it is too late to adjust the fees or get a refund.

why would turbotax not get paid for a service they offer?? they allow you to take it out of your refund but if your refund is delayed than you still need to pay. it’s a service!! it’s not anyone else’s problem but yours that your refund is delayed, you still have to pay for the service you used. sounds like a bunch of thieves and scammers on here. it’s mind boggling half the people on here don’t even read and it’s obvious.

I have opened 5 cases with TurboTax.  Please look up my email and call me!

On Monday March 14th I was charged $251.92 when I tried to e-file my taxes.  I see the charge on my CC statement.

On Wednesday March 16th I was refunded $150.37 after 90 minutes with tech support as my e-file did not go through.  I was not refunded the full $251.92 because I told the support agent I would download and mail my taxes.

On Wednesday March 30th, I tried to print my returns to mail.  However, your software would not allow me to download the forms.  I spent over 2 hours with tech support trying to both e-file and download my tax forms to no avail.

I simply want to be refunded $101.55 which is the difference between what I paid, and what was already refunded.  When I call, I get bounced around from queue to queue.  When I request a refund online, I get the message below:

We are unable to process the refund for TurboTax Online product Case because our Satisfaction Guaranteed policy only covers TurboTax CD/Download products. TurboTax Online is designed not to charge the customer until after they choose to file, so it is not covered under the Satisfaction Guarantee.

Do the right thing TurboTax!  You are stealing from me!  I had to re-do all my taxes through TaxAct and deserve a full refund, not a partial refund!

We are unable to process any refunds here in this public forum. You will need to follow the instructions here to contact an agent by phone who can access your account and billing. @medi00511

I have done this multiple times!  As I mentioned I submitted 5 different cases.  I'm shocked nobody can just send me to a manager to fix this......I'm living in the twilight zone!

April 16, 2022

Then they shouldn't be charging the much higher amount that we only agreed to for taking it out of the refund. I'm not a cpa or a tax professional but I followed their directions to the T and all my information was accurate so if anything was somehow missed it's because I was given bad instructions. I filed January 29th and haven't gotten so much as a letter, email, FU, or anything from the IRS about my refund.

To confirm, you have not received your refund at all?

There are a few explanations of why there could be a delay.  There could be a refund offset or it could be due to the PATH Act.  For more information on this, please see the Help Article here for further assistance.   For this, you will need to reach out directly to the IRS.

I’m going threw the same thing and I don’t have the money to give so I don’t think they should charge us until we get out taxes!!!

@Shaquawn35

Did you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund?  Is your refund taking an unusually long time to arrive?  Or was your refund seized to pay a debt you owed? if so, you signed an agreement that says TT can withdraw its fees from your account.  TurboTax would have sent several emails to you before they took the money out of your account.

Going forward, you can avoid this (and save the extra charge) by paying your TT fees upfront with a debit or credit card.

I am in the same situation! My refund got approved and I received my state refund but not my federal, so I know I entered my information right! This TurboTax plus or whatever isn't worth it! You can't even get too an "expert" without fighting the automated system and when you get there they basically are like I can do anything for to the IRS tracker and it doesn't work!

June 12, 2022

I submitted my refund and amendment through turbo tax (3/28/22 and 4/1/22 respectively); I had to do an amendment because I forgot about the federal relief credit we got. I got a letter from the IRS saying it would take up to 6  weeks to get my amended return... also in early April. I still haven't gotten it yet and it's June 11, 2022. When I check the IRS website, they got my original return but not my amendment, even though the turbo tax site states I submitted the amendment on 1 April.

Can someone please assist me or is the IRS so severely incompetent and overwhelmed? I payed for MAX coverage and I cannot get assistance via the turbo tax phoneline or a live chat to understand where my hard earned money is located.

Please assist,

Tom

@ThaddeusP - the IRS is overwhelmed - you just have to be patient.... think 6-12 months for amendments.

https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue#collapseCollapsible1639064526818

Status of Processing Form 1040-X, Amended Individual Tax Return: As of June 4, 2022, we had 2.1 million unprocessed Forms 1040-X. We are processing these returns in the order received and are working hard to get through the inventory. The current timeframe can be more than 20 weeks instead of up to 16. Please don't file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your amended return. Taxpayers should continue to check Where's My Amended Return? for the most up to date processing status available.

Same thing happening here, wouldn't be surprised if they debit us all and still subtract from the refund later, I'm going to be watching mine.  My account has been over drafted twice now and the bill hasn't even gone down. When I can afford to pay I'm definitely calling in and getting the $60 they've already taken off of the final bill. This is ridiculous more business than ever thanks to COVID-19 and more people filing online and this is how they're going to treat us.... After all  these are unprecedented times, are they not? Where's the humanity? Not a good look for you TurboTax. We're all in the same boat so show some customer loyalty.
