My mom purchased a Tesla last year and wants to gift it to my son. She was/is elegible for the EV rebate and received it ($7500). Since she received the rebate, does she have to own the car for a certain period before she can gift it?

No, there is no length of ownership requirement for the EV tax credit. She can gift the car to your son and not worry about the tax credit. You are not eligible to take the EV credit if you purchase the vehicle for resale. There is no restriction on selling or gifting the vehicle.

For the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (closed as of Nov 2023) consumers must retain ownership of the vehicle in California for a minimum of 30 consecutive months immediately after the vehicle purchase or lease date.
