how do I change the turbo tax type from business to personal

    TurboTax Business is a separate program; so you would need the separate TurboTax (Basic, Deluxe, Premiere. Home & Business) for your individua returns.

    how we can I tell what i currently have.  If it’s business, do we have to start all over?

    Yes, you cannot use TurboTax Business to complete and file a personal Form 1040 return.  

     

    Take a look at the top left section of TurboTax when you open the program.  If you see this, or TurboTax Premiere or TurboTax Deluxe, then you have the 'personal' version of TurboTax.

     

     

     

    If you see this, you have the Business version which is used for partnerships, S-Corps, C-Corps, etc.
