Question

How do I establish a Sch E worksheet link?

On final check, a message states the Schedule E worksheet link must be established.  "Double-click to link royalties to Schedule E worksheet" does nothing.  What am I missing?

This experience can occur if Form 1099-MISC is entered under the income topic rather than under the Rental/Royalties section.

To review your royalty entry, follow these steps:

  1. Open your return and click on Federal >> Wages & Income >> Rentals, Royalties, and Farm >> Revisit Rental Properties and Royalties (Sch E).
  2. Continue through the interview until you come to the Income section. You may need to confirm that the 1099-MISC you entered is related to the Royalty Property you set up. Review the entries for this 1099-MISC
  3. Be sure to address any topics that say "Needs Review" before you click Done for this royalty property.

When you finish, run Review again to confirm the SmartCheck message has resolved.

I am having the same problem as described, but it is from a royalty entry on a K-1 for an oil/gas property (LLC).  It says double click to reestablish the link.  Nothing happens.  Can't for the life of me figure out what/where entry is missing.

Make sure to leave the royalty box under your schedule K-1 blank.  Don’t put a zero or else the software thinks that you have royalty income
