I do I jump to a line on 1040. (e.g. directly enter a number on form 1040 from Schedule 1) OR go directly to schedule 1 to enter the number?

What line on schedule 1 do you need to enter? You have to enter it using the interview steps. Or do you have the Desktop program?

I wanted to report "other income" without having to classify the income as "business income" and avoid the Sch -C

Other Income is reported on Schedule 1 (then flows to Form 1040)

Schedule 1 is part of the return, so you wouldn't enter it directly on Form 1040.
