In the 1099-NEC section, it asks for a EIN number but I only have a TIN number. Where can I enter a TIN number?

Thank you Dawn for your help! Unfortunately, I still get errors. I am entering the numbers in manually and TT converts to dashes. I get error message either way and cannot continue.Screenshot 2025-03-02 Error 2 TT.png

Well a EIN is 9digits.  Your screen shot is 1 digit short.  should be 2 digits then 7 digits.

Same for ssn is 1 digit short.  Should be 4 digits at the end.

Actually I would just enter your total income as Other self employment income or as Cash or General income.  You don't need to get a 1099NEC or 1099Misc or 1099K.  Even if you did you can enter all your income as Cash.  Only the total goes to schedule C.

To enter a 1099-NEC with a TIN follow these steps:

Form 1099-NEC specifically reports Nonemployee Compensation, which you may have gotten in previous years on a 1099-MISC. So, if you worked as a freelancer or contractor last year, you probably got a 1099-NEC reporting how much money you were paid in box 1.

To enter your Form 1099-NEC in TurboTax:

    1. Open or continue your return - be sure you are logged in for link to work:
    2. Navigate to 1099-NEC:
      1. TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to 1099-NEC.
      2. Select the pencil icon next to the 1099-NEC with the TIN to edit it.
      3. Continue through until you come to the question:
        • "How is your payer's federal ID number formatted?"
Choose the format "xxx-xx-xxxx" (like a Social Security number).
        • This should allow you to enter a TIN.

Thank you for the quick response! Unfortunately, that didn't work. Whichever of the two choices I enter the number in, I get an error message.

I imagine others entering in 1099-NEC info would be having this issue?

Enter the 9 numbers only - do not enter any dashes.   You choose how the number is formatted, either xx-xxxxxxx OR xxx-xx-xxxx, and enter only the 9 numeric digits, no hyphens, dashes, or spaces.    Enter the digits, then scroll down and hit Continue.   If you get an error (you should not), please share a screenshot of the error.
