The 1099 Misc form has no TIN# and issuer is not responding, what do I put down?

The income can be reported without actually entering the 1099-MISC. You should delete that and then enter the income as indicated below based on your decision. First delete your Form 1099-MISC using the link below for your TurboTax version. Keep the form in your file.

    • If you're using TurboTax Online software and need to delete a form, click here.
    • If you're using TurboTax Desktop software and need to delete a form, click here.

If you consider this to be self employment, and may be doing consulting regularly you can report it as such.

If this was a one time requested consultation and you do not plan to pursue this regularly for livelihood you can report it as follows.

    Other Miscellaneous Income:

    1. Sign into your TurboTax Online account
    2. Go to Tax Home (left panel)  Wages and Income  section
    3. Scroll to  Less Common Income > Select  Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
    4. Select Other reportable Income > Enter a description (----) and the amount

Can you clarify what the 1099-MISC is for and what box numbers are completed?

I am retired and did some work for my former employer.  It was being on a Zoom call discussing future work by new engineers. I am a retired engineer with 40 years with my employer. Also, turbotax asked me to fill in a product code for what I did. I could not find out where to find that answer.  The outside firm I received my 1099 Misc form was the who my company hired to facilitate the meetings. Sorry for delay but I could not find the way to answer you back until today.  Thanks in advance. Like I mentioned before this outside firm had no TIN#, no EIN# and no account(24 digit) number.
