Question

On line 17 of Schedule A my item. ded. are 40K+. But the software is only entering the stand. ded. of $27,700. I can't click the box on line 18 to take the item. ded.

I did get some notice that I maxed out the federal $10,000 amount for itemized deductions. I've never seen that before and not sure what it means.

The message on the screen may have been related to the State and Local Tax portion of itemized deductions. That category is limited to a maximum amount of $10,000. Since it was limited, that may be the reason that TurboTax has chosen the standard deduction for you.

You can change your deduction from standard to itemized or vice versa through an input in the program. This screen will also show you the amount for each option so you can decide which is best for you.
