Question

Where can I find my cost basis for depreciable assets I entered into Turbo tax years ago?

I see $2134 "depreciation expense or depletion" on Schedule E of my return for 2022, 2023, etc... but I need to know how Turbo Tax is calculating that.

Within the rental activity of the tax return, at the screen Asset Summary, select Show Details to see the computation method that was used.

To view this screen within TurboTax Premium Online, select the rental activity, then Rental Property under Assets.

Edit the asset at the screen Your Property Assets.

IRS Publication 534 explains the different depreciation methods.

See Form 4562 Depreciation and Amortization Report for each year that you prepare a Federal 1040 income tax return.  It may be found within the tax return forms and worksheets.

You can print or view your full tax returns prior to filing after you have paid for the software.

  • View the entries down the left side of the screen at Tax Tools.
  • Select Print Center.
  • Select Print, save or preview this year's return.
  • Select Include government and TurboTax worksheets.

Thanks for your reply but I just want to be clear on one thing, you are saying I have to pay for TurboTax Premium Online, in order to view this information?

Yes, you will need to upgrade to TurboTax Premium in order to file Schedule E.

If you only need to print/preview your prior year returns, you can do that in any version. Click on Tax Home, then look for "Your tax returns & documents" at the bottom of the welcome page after you log into TurboTax.
