Question

Why do I now need to override Schedule C 1a "enter other gross receipts or sales NOT reported on a 1099-NEC"

Not sure if the IRS changed form C this year, but I don't recall that before there were two entry points on C or gross receipts or sales. Now on the C form there is

1a enter other gross receipts or sales NOT reported on a 1099-NEC

1b enter gross receipts or sales reported on a 1099-NEC

The first time around I entered the 1099-NECs that were sent to me, and then plugged in my full sales amount for the year (cash basis), not realizing that it would add the two together. Either the step by step didn't make it clear that the first was for NOT on a 1099-NEC or I just missed it.

Now I need to return to the step by step and enter  the reduced amount for "enter other gross receipts or sales NOT reported on a 1099-NEC". I cannot find the entry point for that in step by step. If I'm on the 1a 1099-NEC section in "forms" and then go to step by step, it takes me to the very global "Your 2023 Income Summary". I've hopped all around and cannot find the step by step location for that info. And if I try to override the presented value in C 1a, it warns that I won't be able to e-file?

found it; have to start business section and 1099 income stuff is there.
the return to step by step thing just lands in the wrong spot.
