I PAID OFF ALL MY CREDIT CARDS BACK MANY\{more than 10}YEARS AGO. NOW I HAVEN'T HAD A CREDIT SCORE OR A CREDIT CARD SINCE THEN. THEY ACT AS IF I DON'T EXIST, I PAY A CABLE BILL A CELL PHONE BILL, A UTILITY BILL & A FEW DOCTORS BILLS EACH MONTH. HOW DO I GET THEM TO RECOGNISE ME?

Today's lenders are just stupid, for lack of a politer word. I to have a FICO score of zero, and with the last 2 years tax returns they can see quite plainly that I have more wealth than the bank president does. Yet they won't lend me money because of the FICO score. Fine with me. I just withdraw what I need from my accounts with that bank, close all my accounts with that bank, pay for what I need to pay for and transfer the remaining money to a new bank. Of course, in the mist of all this I have the account closing agents asking why I'm closing my accounts, and I tell them why. They're flabbergasted of course at the stupidity of the institution that employ's them, ask me to fill out a survey card as I'm leaving the bank for what will be my last time, and I have no problem obliging them.

What I find humorous is the follow-up letters I get about a week later that's all apologetic and willing to "re-evaluate" my situation. I usually respond via e-mail with something akin to "I may or may not re-evaluate your services, should I have need for them in the future...but don't count on it."

Best part is, the credit union I'm with now, if I just mention the word "loan" or "borrow" the next thing I know someone is asking me how much I would like. There's no question about my income or ability to pay because they have the common sense to look at my account history and see I have a looooong history of saving each month, more than what they probably get paid each month.

Oh, by the way, I'm not rich. I'm a retired vet who was educated about money management starting early in my military career, "by" the military. I don't know any military vets who retired rich. Most were lucky if they retired comfortably.
