Derogatory marks

This year I just paid taxes off of a cancelled debt. Will the derogatory mark ever be removed from my report? The debt just turned over 8 years old, and I just paid taxes on it being cancelled. Do I have to dispute it to get it removed?

    Depending on what debt the remark pertains to, it may be two more years before it basically scrolls off your credit.
