How do I choose the spouse who claims the DTC?

We will automatically claim the disability amount transferred from your dependant on the spouse with the highest income (after deductions). If that person is not the current designated transfer recipient, you will need to update your records with the CRA.

My wife is not on the T2201, only me. How do I choose so that the DTC is used for me and not my wife, who happens to have the higher income this year.

Are you using TurboTax CD/Download or TurboTax Online?

I have the same question! My husband and I typically make the same amount. This year he is slightly above me and now the tax software is telling me that I will need to contact the CRA to transfer it to him. Seems like a lot of work when I am happy to just claim it under me.

Unfortunately, if you are using TurboTax Online, there is no way to change which spouse is getting the disability transfer from the dependant. You can do so in TurboTax CD/Download, but you may not be able to NETFILE the return if you do.

For 2024 I have the downloaded version 2024 premier version and after spending two days with your agent and for both days 1h30 min on the phone we still didn’t get a answer as why the software is not automatically transferring the DTC or even allowing any caregiver credit. Can we know when this issue will get resolved?
