10 Year Averaging for inherited IRA

Can a beneficiary who inherited an IRA from an aunt who was 45 years older than her do a 10 year averaging.  The owner of the IRA died in 2020 and the beneficiary distributed the entire IRA in 2024.

    No, the beneficiary would not be entitled to use the Ten Year Tax Option.

    Special 10-year averaging is potentially available for lump-sum distributions only from employer plans, not from an IRA.
