My child , which is 15 years old got a 1099-nec , box 1 shows less than 4000.00 .  Does she need to file a return ? or can i file for under my return ?

    Yes, she needs to file her own tax return to report self-employed income greater than $400 (gross income minus expenses).   When her return is filed, be sure to indicate that she is being claimed as a dependent on another return.  

     

    You cannot include this income on your own return because it is earned income.  Parents may only claim certain unearned income on their own return for their dependents.
