I also am trying to claim a loss due to a Federal Disaster.  I waited until this week to file my return but I am still not seeing where TT is recognizing the casualty loss.  It still selects the standard deduction.  Is there any update as to when TT will be updated???  should I file my return without it and amend later??

    1. The loss may be added to the standard deduction or to itemized. Once the federal and state governments are complete and ready, we will be updated and ready. Please check forms availability here.

    2. The IRS says you should not file a return you know is inaccurate. Therefore, you really should wait.

Topic 515 is great for helping to file the casualty loss.

Form 4684 is available online but I am still not seeing where it is adding the loss to the standard deduction amount.  Where does that happen???

The Net Qualified Disaster Loss is reported on line 15, on the dotted line next to line 16 of Schedule A.  Ensure your software is current if you do not see Form 4684 in TurboTax.  To manually update your software, follow these steps provided by TurboTax:

    1. Close TurboTax and all other programs except this browser window.
    2. Select this link to download the 319 MB update.
    3. Save the update file to your Windows desktop.
    4. Double-click the update file w_perrelsuperpatch... on your desktop to install the manual update.

We don't offer manual updates for TurboTax state software. If you need to update your state, here are your options.
