Are you confusing business expenses that go on a Schedule C with itemized deductions that go on Schedule A?
If you are self-employed, you can use your business expenses such as mileage, home office expenses, cell phone, MLS fees, advertising, etc etc etc. and enter those on Schedule C
Schedule A is for your personal itemized deductions like mortgage interest, property tax, medical expenses, charity donations, gambling losses....etc.
