Question

Beneficiaries percentages do not equal 100%

Using TurboTax Business to complete a return for my deceased father. I still need to update a couple of fields, but I went through to see what the "check for errors" would say. I got a message saying "the beneficiaries percentage do not equal 100%" but nothing that says how the 100% value is calculated. Each beneficiary got a slightly different amount of cash because some of them received property (furniture, lawn mower, etc.) in lieu of cash. Is that causing a problem? Do I have to report the value of items allocated to heirs in lieu of cash? The only cash distributed was from the sale of the house, and most of the items in it had no value and had to be disposed of.

Update: this is a bug. TT should be asking me what percentage each beneficiary recieves and populating that info into the K-1 form. It does not ask, does not populate, and does not tell me to put the info in the form manually.

Did anyone figure out this bug?  I am getting this message still and cannot see how to enter a percentage for the beneficiary distributions.

Please try this action to enter the beneficiary percentages and the combined total should equal 100% in TurboTax Business.

  • Go to Forms > click on Schedule K-1 for each beneficiary on the left side > scroll down to Beneficiary's Allocation Smart Worksheet > Enter the percentage under B(1).  After entering the percentage, the correct figures should be displayed.
  • This should remove the message.

If you have additional questions, pleases update and we will help.
