Question

Can I deduct the insurance and taxes paid on a property if they are not included in my mortgage payment? If so do I enter this amount under the 1098 entered?

You can only deduct property tax not insurance.

You can report property taxes for any property that isn't used for business. Enter this under Deductions >> Your Home >> Property Taxes. This topic is in the same section as Mortgage Interest from Form 1098.
