Question

Charitable carryover error???

Using the 2025 online edition, a charitable contribution carryover deduction is being computed in error, seemingly due to a simple arithmetic error on a related carryover worksheet. Has anyone else encountered this??? Thanks. 🙂

Oops! That should be 2024 online edition. 😉

Can you clarify what error you are seeing?  Is the import from the 2023 return not importing correctly or are you seeing a calculation error on the 2024 return itself?

My return includes charitable deduction carryovers (30% capital gain) from 2023 that appear to have been correctly imported by my 2024 return. My 2024 return includes modest current year cash contributions plus a substantial non-cash contribution (30% capital gain) . Schedule A of the 2024 return is allowing the cash contributions in full (that looks correct) plus so much of the non-cash contribution as to equal 50% of AGI taking both the cash and non-cash amounts together (and that also looks correct) and a significant carryover to 2025 results. But the return is also allowing a "carryover from prior year" amount on line 13 of Schedule A that appears to flow from an arithmetic error on line 26 of the "charitable deduction limits worksheet for carryover contributions" worksheet. No carryover amount should be allowed in my opinion.  Because I'm using the online edition I don't necessarily have access to all related worksheets, so I can't diagnose the problem further. I just know that the amounts on Schedule A (particularly line 13) are in error. Thanks.
