Turbotax Delux. Using Easy Steps. I'm at Deductions - Employee Expense other.

I'm been using TT for years. This is the first year I'm filing jointly. The walk through process seems to think the business expenses are mine. Asking if Ted had xyx tax situations. This year the business expenses are my wife's. How do I change this? What happens if 2 people are filing business deductions. 2 form or combined?

Employee Expenses (Job-related expenses) are not deductible for W-2 employees, other than a few exceptions, see link below. Some states allow the deduction. If you are entering them for a state deduction, you can add two different forms based on your occupations.

The first question asks what occupation these expenses are for. You can prepare one form for your occupation and a second form for your wife's occupation. TurboTax will transfer Form 2106, for each occupation, to your state return. If your state does not allow the deduction, or you are not one of the exceptions listed, you should delete Form 2106 from your return.

If you are self-employed taxpayers, you should deduct your business expenses on Schedule C. See this TurboTax FAQ for instructions on entering your self-employment related expenses. A Schedule C is tied to one taxpayer, so if you are both self-employed, you will each have your own Schedule C as part of your Form 1040 tax return.
