My wife and I work late and use a karate class for child care one day a week. Can I count this as a dependent care deduction?

Yes, amounts paid for child care for children under 13 so that parents can work, look for work, or go to school is eligible for the child tax credit. Since this class was used as child care while you worked late, it is an eligible expense.

Here is how to enter your daycare expenses:

    • Navigate to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Dependent Care Credit > Add/Edit.

See more information about the credit here: The Ins and Outs of the Child and Dependent Care Credit
