Energy-Efficient Vehicle Charging Station Deduction Not Working!

When trying to claim this credit, TurboTax calculates my personal credit as $0. This is for the personal home use portion. For the general business (for which I use this charger 60% of the time), the software gives me a number I will be credited, but does not add to my refund total.

On top of this, the deduction section "Energy-Efficient Vehicle Charging Station" disappears from the deductions section in the software after I hit "Done" after seeing my credit I will be getting to my refund. The forms are there, but no credits are allocated to the total. Forms 8911, as well as form 3800.

I spoke with someone at TurboTax 2 weeks ago and they told me to wait until 2/12/2025 to get an updated form. It is now 2/17/2025 and it is still not working.

I live in a rural area, and I meet all the criteria to receive this credit. What is going on?

We can take a look at your return so we can see exactly what you see and help come to a resolution. The return will be scrubbed and will not include any of your personal details.

Once you're logged in to your account,

- on the left hand panel, click on Tax Tools and then choose Tools

- on the pop up window, select Share my file with Agent

- you'll see a message saying you'll give us a copy of your tax return. Your personal information will be changed so we can't see any private information.

- click okay and you'll get another message with a token

Reply to this message with your token and we'll take a look to see what we can find. Let us know what other states, if any, are included in your return.

Thank you for providing your token.

Your credit is zero because you have other credits that are already reducing your tax liability to zero.

This particular credit is what's called a nonrefundable credit, which means that it can only lower your tax liability to zero. If your tax liability is zero, it can't increase your refund.

The business portion of your credit should carry forward to next year.
