Escape assessment

We purchased our house in 2023.

In 2025 we received an escape assessment, increasing the property taxes on our house for 23-24 (prorated) and 24-25. We paid both in 2025.

Can I include the escape assessment in my 2024 tax return? Or, since it was paid in 2025, can that only be included on my 2025 tax return?

No, you can't include these amount that were paid in 2025 on your 2024 tax return.  However, as a cash basis taxpayer, these amounts are deductible on your 2025 tax return.
