Gambling losses NYS

I have entered my gambling winnings and losses (to extent of winnings) in the federal section of TT.  I am taking the standard deduction on my federal return, but I am itemizing deductions on my state return.  Looking at the forms on my state return the gambling losses are not shown anywhere, but the winnings are shown.

Looks like a TT bug, but in any case how can I enter my losses on my state return?

TurboTax transfers data from your federal return to your state return. Before you begin troubleshooting your state return, go back through your federal return and make sure everything is correct.

After you review your federal return, select the State Taxes tab and review the state section. Pay close attention to the information, especially if you have made changes to your federal return. There might be new sections that need to be completed.

Troubleshooting common federal to state transfer issues

To enter your gambling winnings and claim the losses that go with the winnings in TurboTax:

    1. Open your return
    2. Income
    3. Less common Income
    4. Prizes, Awards, and Gambling Winnings
    5. Say No, you did not receive a W2-G, hit next
    6. Enter your winnings
    7. On the next screen enter your losses.

    Thank you for the information.

I decided to take another look at my state forms in TT and I see that the losses were properly entered by TT. The reason the losses did not offset my winnings is my income was too high (I had some one-time income that pushed me over the limit).

So TT does not have a bug, it worked perfectly. My complaint should be with the NYS tax code.

    Thanks, again.
