Question

How do I check to see what my taxes would be using itemized deductions for both federal and state rather than standardized deduction?

My state requires same deduction method as used on federal. Does turbotax software now take the state return into consideration?

Yes, TurboTax takes all state tax laws into consideration when preparing your tax returns.   You can change your deduction on your federal return by using the instructions in the link below.   After you change your federal deduction, you can go through your state return again to see the changes, based on your state's tax laws.

How to I switch from Standard to Itemized or vice versa?  You can always switch to a different deduction. However, if you and your spouse are filing separate federal returns, both of you must take the same deduction per IRS rules. Only TurboTax Deluxe and above can handle itemized deductions.
