    It’s California. By my calcs, itemized would provide better refund. However there is no way provided to see or choose this option.

    TurboTax will automatically choose the best option for you in your situation. Are you including state and local income taxes in your calculation? If so, they should be deducted from your itemized deductions as California does not allow a deduction for state and local income tax.
