Question

How do I input itemized deductions for my state return when I am not itemizing on my federal return. Turbo Tax won't let me.

Instructions say to go back to federal Deductions and Credits and input itemized deductions. But, it won't let me because I am not itemizing on the federal return.

    You should still be able to put in all your deductions in the Federal section....that's where 99% of them are supposed to be entered.

    BUT

    You "might" have to upgrade to the Deluxe version if you are now using the Free version.

    (Or if you have already e-filed the Fed by itself...it might be locked until that is accepted by the IRS)
