How to get foreign tax credit for foreign taxes paid on U.S. income

I have zero income earned in Colombia.

Colombia, like the U.S., taxes world-wide sources of income.

In 2024 I paid $1666 in income taxes to Colombia for income earned in the U.S in 2023.

I paid income tax in the U.S. on the same income.

How can I get a Tax Credit in Turbo Tax for this foreign tax paid?

This question has been asked before but never adequately answered.  In the Turbo Tax Foreign Tax Credit section they only address foreign income taxes paid on FOREIGN income.

With Turbo Tax, how can I get credit for the foreign taxes paid on income made in the U.S.?

It depends. If you are a US citizen and have income from Colombia where you did pay income tax on that income, you can include the foreign tax credit in your tax return. Use the link below to take you step-by-step to enter your credit.

The foreign tax credit can be carried back one year or carried forward up to 10 years so you want to keep track of your credits and which year is used. See Topic no. 856, Foreign tax credit.

Please look at the first line of my original post.  Your answer was not responsive.

A good answer does exist, with step by step instructions at

The link you provided shows the steps to enter only the foreign tax paid without entering any foreign income, and getting the credit.

Were you able to report the foreign tax paid (without foreign income) by following those steps?
