There is no child tax credit for an adult. You lose the child tax credit when the child turns 17. After 16, you can get the $500 credit for other dependents.
If your adult child lives away from home, you *might* still be able to get that $500 credit if the child meets the criteria to be claimed. You have not mentioned if the adult child is a student. If they are a student there are other possible credits like education credit or earned income credit if they can still be your qualifying child dependent.
IRS interview to help determine who can be claimed:
When you add someone as a dependent, we'll ask a series of questions to make sure you can claim them. There may be other tax benefits you can get when you claim a dependent.

The credit is for "other dependents". The interactive IRS website link you provided confirms that $500 credit is valid if I provide over half of support and dependent doesn't earn over $5050. Turbo Tax message comes back as "we don't have enough information to determine if this is a dependent". That's b/c TurboTax never asks for the dependents income. There's a bug or missing input in TurboTax. Is there a way to override and do manual entry of this credit?
You must have missed the question. You are asked in MY INFO if the person you are claiming as a dependent had an income of more than $5050. Click his name and go through the questions again, or try deleting him and then re-entering him and go through the interview screens again.
