HSA Excess Contribution Incorrect?

I was enrolled in an HDHP for self only  for all of 2024.  My ER contributed 500 to my HSA.  I contributed 3600 aftertax dollars to a separate account.  When I entered this to turbotax, it said I had $500 excess contributions, and it did not give me a credit for the 3600.  What am I doing wrong for it to calculate an excess contribution and not give a credit when I was enrolled in an HDHP and was under the limit?

You'll need to make sure you go through the HSA screens to indicate what kind of coverage you had in 2024 so that TurboTax knows you were eligible. This is in the Deductions and Credits section of TurboTax.

You'll also need to enter the after tax contributions you made to the account. This is done on the screen that says Let's enter your HSA contributions. The contributions from your W-2 will flow to this screen, and there's a box where you can enter additional contributions you made.
