Last year I got married to a non-resident alien on an F1 Visa. He works 20 hours on campus and received a w2. We want to file jointly if possible. How can we make that happen? We are in the process of getting him citizenship so we want everything to be accurate.

If you want to file a joint return, all you need to do is include him on your return as your spouse, then when asked if any of these apply to him, you will select, they were a nonresident alien or dual status alien spouse and yes to the drop down that then asks if you would like to treat them as a US resident for the entire tax year.

Once you do this, you will enter his information like you would if he was a US Citizen, including his W-2 and any other income he may have earned from any source world wide for all of 2024.

If he does not already have an ITIN you will need to print and mail your return along with the W-7 and any other required documents to
