Solved

I have been a resident alien, but I received 1042-S. How can I report 1042-S in 1040EZ form? Income codes are 06 and 36

Unfortunately, you may need to upgrade to input this information.

On your Form 1042-S, Code 6 is a dividend distribution and code 36 is a capital gains distribution.

You would enter this information as if you received a 1099-DIV in TurboTax.

To enter your 1042-S income as if reported on a 1099-DIV enter this dividend income and capital gains distribution in TurboTax Online or Desktop, please follow these steps:

  1. Once you are in your tax return, click on the “Federal Taxes” tab ("Personal" tab in TurboTax Home & Business)
  2. Next click on “Wages & Income” ("Personal Income" in TurboTax Home & Business)
  3. Next click on “I’ll choose what I work on” (jump to full list)
  4. Scroll down the screen until to come to the section “Interest and Dividends
  5. Choose “Dividends on 1099-DIV” and select “start’
  6. Select "I'll type it in myself"
  7. Enter the name of the payer on form 1042-S and  the amount for Code 06 in box 1a (If qualified dividends also include this amount in box 1b.)
  8. Put the code 36 capital gains distribution in box 2a
  9. Check the box "My form has info in more than just box 1 (this is uncommon)".
  10. Enter any Federal income taxes withheld in box 4 (screenshot)

Thank you TurboTaxDeeS, Thank you very much. This is very helpful.  I have further questions:

Do I have to file all tax paper works manually with 1042-S OR I just file my tax online to IRA without submitting 1042-S ?
