I have interest income received from foreign bank with some Foreign tax paid without having any 1099-INT. However when I try to enter that manually using 1099-INT, FEIN number is mandatory. It does not accept all 0 or all 1 or all 9 as FEIN number. Can not leave it blank or type N/A as suggested by Turotax AI. How to handle this?

In TurboTax Premium Online, I am able to enter foreign bank interest income and foreign tax paid and calculate a foreign tax credit.

The entry of the foreign bank interest does not require entry of an identification number.

Follow these steps.

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen , click on Wages & Income.
  • Click on the down arrow to the right of Investments and Savings.
  • Click to the right of Interest on 1099-INT.
  • At the screen Let's finish pulling in your investments, select Add investments.
  • At the screen Let's import your tax info, click Enter a different way.
  • At the screen OK, let's start with one investment type, select Interest.  Click Continue.
  • At the screen How would you like to upload your 1099-INT, select Type it in myself.
